Coreum is a Proof-of-Stake Layer-1 blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK, designed around interoperability (IBC) and the practical needs of asset issuance and tokenization. The project emphasizes building “business-ready” digital assets and market infrastructure directly at the protocol level, rather than relying only on application-layer smart contracts.
A central concept in Coreum is Smart Tokens: native fungible tokens and NFTs with optional, built-in controls that can be enabled per asset. These controls are meant to support real-world and institutional use cases where issuers need more than simple transfers.
What Coreum offers (as a project):
-
PoS Layer-1 + on-chain governance: a validator-based network with fees, staking, and governance mechanics.
-
Smart Tokens (native programmable assets): token-level features such as minting/burning, freezing, whitelisting/blacklisting, IBC transfer enable/disable, blocking transfers to smart contracts, NFT transfer restrictions, soulbound NFTs, clawback, and an access control list (ACL) model for administration.
-
CosmWasm smart contracts: WASM-based smart contracts (Rust/CosmWasm) for building dApps and extending workflows—Smart Tokens can also be issued/managed through contract logic.
-
Native order-book DEX: a built-in, on-chain order book exchange model (on-demand markets/pairs), positioned for secondary trading (including RWA-style assets), with developer tooling like the CoreDEX API and WASM-based extensions for custom trading rules.
-
Interoperability: IBC connectivity in the Cosmos ecosystem, plus a dedicated XRPL ↔ Coreum bridge concept/workflow showcased through official workshops and tooling.
-
ISO 20022-focused tooling: Coreum provides an ISO 20022 financial messaging simulator and educational materials showing how ISO 20022-style flows can be modeled in a blockchain context.
